Birmingham Hero Paul Jackson will be speaking at this event

Please note that to attend this event you must already be registered for the Conservative Party Conference.

This panel will examine the veiw that overseas aid should be explicitly linked to the UK's security concerns and the implications of that.

It will focus on a number of key sub-questions:
What does this mean in practice?
How do we see security-is it the security of the UK, or is it more important to consider the human security of individuals within the countries we support? Are they mutually exclusive?
How do we reconcile the security of states that may not provide access to justice or security for groups of people, particularly women, with our security needs as the UK?

Speakers:
The Rt Hon Andrew Mitchell MP, Secretary of State for International Development
Professor David Eastwood, Vice-Chancellor, University of Birmingham
Dame Barbara Stocking, CEO, Oxfam
Professor Paul Jackson, Head of the International Development Department, University of Birmingham
Dr Basia Spalek, Reader in Communities and Justice, University of Birmingham
