Mischief, medicines and molecular architecture: A journey through time and molecular space
- James Watt Lecture Theatre (G31), Mechanical Engineering
- Engineering and Physical Sciences, Research, Teaching
An inaugural lecture by Professor Nigel Simpkins, Haworth Chair of Chemistry at the School of Chemistry.
We are surrounded by molecules, and we are, ourselves, largely composed of molecules, ranging from the familiar H2O to the most complex biopolymers.
What do these molecules look like? How do chemists look at molecular structure? What is 'organic' about synthesis and what has it to do with medicine? The lecture will be a light-hearted journey through my chemical background, including characters, collaborators and chemistry.
