Three University of Birmingham Sport (UBSport) alumni have been selected to represent England at the upcoming Commonwealth Games to be held in Delhi, India from October 3-14.

Hannah England, who is fresh from her appearance at the recent European Championships in Barcelona, will stepping out in home colours for the 1500m metres alongside defending Champion Lisa Dobriskey.

The biochemistry graduate will be looking to increase her current Commonwealth ranking of 7th.

Luke Gunn, Sports and Material Science graduate and UBSport’s scholarship manager, will be going to Delhi for the 3000m steeplechase and, as the current UK Champion, and will be looking to place for a medal at his second appearance at the games.

Louise Hazel, a French graduate who now works with Luke as admin assistant for the scholarships programme, will be competing in the 100m hurdles and her best event, the Heptathlon.

Head athletics coach Mike Bull said of the call ups, ‘Congratulations to all three on their selection. Hannah now has the opportunity to shine again after her recent GB performance at the European Champs while Louise could challenge for a podium place, particularly with Jessica Ennis missing from the Heptathlon.’

He continued, ‘Luke will be going to Delhi as the current GB event leader and a competitive run will place him near within sight of a medal. We will be keeping a close eye on all three to see how they get on.’
