June saw the fifth year of the University of Birmingham Capgemini Community Challenge, designed and led through a unique partnership between Birmingham Business School and Careers Network. The Challenge is unique to Birmingham, whereby 25 Business School and Computer Science students spend a week working at Capgemini's offices in teams of five to deliver a tangible and sustainable solution to a real third sector client.

Zhongbei Tian, PhD student at the Birmingham Centre for Railway Research and Education, University of Birmingham, won the prestigious 2016 European Partnership for Railway Energy Settlement Systems (ERESS) Award for Best Energy Efficiency Project for Railways and/or on Trains, hosted in Madrid, Spain on Wednesday 25 May 2016.
