Written by Chris Game, Honorary Senior Lecturer, INLOGOV. Wednesday April 15 is Democracy Day. It's the start of the final coordinated push before the 2015 voter registration deadline on April 20. It was organised, like February's National Voter Registration Day, by Bite the Ballot, a not-for-profit community movement that aims to encourage young people in particular to reject Russell Brand's baleful "stop voting" gospel and make their votes count.

University of Birmingham expands online postgraduate degree offerings in Business and Public Administration

Description
The University of Birmingham is expanding its global academic borders with the announcement that it will now be offering a number of its postgraduate distance learning courses through its online learning platform. The programmes include a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) and a Masters of Science (MSc) in International Business, both from the award-winning Birmingham Business School, as well as a Masters in Public Administration (MPA). Classes for all programmes start in September 2015 and applications are now being accepted.

The Birmingham Brief - 'Solid air': how our emissions are altering the carbon cycle

I doubt that John Martyn was thinking about the conversion of carbon dioxide and water to wood when he wrote his 1970s classic, Solid Air. His lyrics focus on the difficulty of moving forward through life as though through solid air. But, as metaphors go, it could hardly be better suited to the springtime reawakening of the plant world.

Call for volunteers: If you are living on a road with heavy traffic, are you curious to know what your exposure to air pollution at your residence is?
Description
A research team in the School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences are recruiting volunteers living on roads with heavy traffic, to take part in a research project investigating personal exposure to airborne pollutants during daily routine activities, such as sitting in traffic and cooking.
