Oil paintings from University of Birmingham go online for the first time

Public Invited to Tag Paintings to Help Build a National Online Catalogue. The Public Catalogue Foundation (PCF), in partnership with the BBC, today announced that all oil paintings in public ownership in Birmingham, including at the University, have been added to the Your Paintings website for the nation to enjoy. Your Paintings is a project to create a complete online catalogue of every oil painting in the national collection, at www.bbc.co.uk/yourpaintings.

University supporters set to change the world with achievement of £60 million fundraising target

The University of Birmingham's Circles of influence fundraising campaign has reached and surpassed its £60m fundraising goal - the largest target ever achieved by a Midlands university.Launched in 2009, the University set an ambitious target to raise £60m to support the research into critical issues that affect us all, to open the University to talented students regardless of their financial circumstances, and to develop the University's beautiful campus to provide world-class facilities for our students, staff, and the people of Birmingham. Thanks to the generosity of alumni and friends, this target has now been exceeded.

Ironbridge Gorge Museums to host annual Ironbridge Lecture

The prestigious Ironbridge Lecture will once again be hosted by The Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust on Tuesday 6th December in the Engine Shop at Enginuity in Coalbrookdale. The annual lecture, held in partnership with the University of Birmingham, will be delivered by the University's Professor of Community History and Director of the BirminghamLives project Professor Carl Chinn MBE.

A team of ten University of Birmingham staff, students and alumni completed the 13.1 mile Bupa Great Birmingham Run this weekend, raising more than £4,200 for cancer research taking place at the University.

University welcomes U.S. Congressmen to Campus

Description
Two former members of Congress are visiting Birmingham next week to provide a rare insight into the US political system, as well as share their personal experiences with students.The University of Birmingham will host Republican George Nethercutt and Democrat David Skaggs as part of the Congress to Campus programme. During the visit, the Congressmen will discuss the current state of politics in the United States, how the system of representative democracy works and help students understand a "behind-the-scenes" view of the American political system.
