Birmingham Science City
One notable example of the University of Birmingham's success in working together with commercial partners is the involvement in the Science City initiative, a joint venture between the universities of Birmingham and Warwick in the areas of Advanced Materials, Energy and Translational Medicine which is supported by £60M from Advantage West Midlands and part-funded by European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
Its aim is to enhance the research and innovation capacity of the West Midlands and to encourage greater collaboration between universities and business and industry. The University manages core projects under major stands of this flagship initiative and is pivotal in bringing in commercial partners to make it happen.
