University of Birmingham hosts Prestigious Lord Stafford Awards
The University of Birmingham was delighted to host this year’s prestigious Lord Stafford Awards celebrating the collaborations and achievements between business and Universities across the Midlands.
The University had 3 finalists in 2 categories - The Innovation and Development’ award the ‘Open Collaboration’ award.
The University of Birmingham Centre for Formulation Engineering was recognised for delivering leading-edge research for some of Britain’s biggest household names and collaborations include Unilever, Kraft Cadbury, Boots and Rolls Royce and is the only facility of its kind in the UK.
The Manufacturing Technology Centre, a collaboration between industry and academia in high value manufacturing for which the University of Birmingham is a partner, was also a finalist in the’ Open Collaboration Category’.
Serascience Ltd a University of Birmingham spin-out company was a finalist in ‘Innovation and Development’ and was praised for a significantly improved process for the testing of myeloma which it developed with Abingdon Health Ltd.
Currently, testing for myeloma - a form of cancer of bone marrow plasma cells - requires patients to attend a specialist laboratory with a waiting time of several days for result, the new process enables testing to be done in less than 10 minutes.
