Postgraduate allocations for accommodation for academic year 2015/16

Postgraduates inside the guarantee scheme who have yet to hear about an offer of accommodation:

If you are a postgraduate student who has had your place firmly accepted by the University, have submitted an accommodation application no later than 31st July 2015 and are an international student, then you are within our accommodation guarantee scheme and are guaranteed accommodation this September.

We have started to allocate accommodation offers, however If you are yet to hear from us about an offer of accommodation, please be patient as offers will continue to go out over the next few weeks. We appreciate that this can be an anxious time, especially if you are new to Birmingham and unfamiliar with the area, however we are currently sending out accommodation offers and will be in touch shortly.

Postgraduates outside the guarantee scheme:

If you have applied after the deadline of 31st July and/or a UK or EU Postgraduate student then unfortunately we cannot guarantee you accommodation. All applications will be reviewed after those within the guarantee scheme are allocated. If we are unable to allocate you we will offer support and assist you in the search for accommodation in the private sector.

Right to Rent Checks

Following recent government legislation, landlords in the West Midlands will now be required to check a tenant's right to be in the UK before allowing them to live in their property.  This applies to any new tenancy in private rented accommodation starting after 1st December 2014.  Therefore if you are looking to rent property in the private sector, even if you are a UK citizen, you can expect your landlord to ask to see (and take copies of) documents that confirm your right to be in the UK.  Further details can be found in our information sheet.  If you have any concerns about this you are encouraged to contact Living for assistance.
