Managing in a Political Environment

Introduction

In this module students will study the role of political leadership in public management as well as the role of public sector managers in supporting this leadership, including the provision of expert advice. This module will help students apply the skills needed to manage the interface between political and managerial leadership.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the module students will be able to:

  • Explain the theories and concepts which distinguish political and professional leadership
  • Apply the skills required to operate in the interface environment
  • Explain the necessary professional competences required to develop and maintain effective relationships with politicians
