The Birmingham-Jinan MBA programme, totally taught abroad and delivered entirely in English, is a jointly cooperated part-time program held by Birmingham Business School and the School of Management at Jinan University, Guangzhou, China. This represents a flying faculty arrangement, with the award of a University of Birmingham degree.

Students will be awarded MBA degree from University of Birmingham and certificate of completion from Jinan University after they earn the required credits, complete dissertation and pass the oral defense.

The program aims to foster high-level management talent who will be able to meet the demands of Chinese economic and social development, as well as the needs of internationalisation of Chinese enterprises. They also have insights of multi-culture and competitiveness in globalised business.

jinan-universityIt also focuses on the development of leadership skills in corporate management, which include innovative thinking on the basis of professional knowledge and being able to develop solutions against management problems.

The Birmingham-Jinan MBA program aims to establish a competitive MBA program for senior managers of international companies in South China and the neighbouring region, by integrating the resources in MBA education and the excellence of faculty teams of both parties, who both enjoy a long history and strong reputation.

They will achieve this by utilising the advanced education theories and mature quality control system of the University of Birmingham, as well as the profound expertise of Jinan University in business education in the context of Chinese culture and by adopting the high quality” flying faculty model”, as well as concise and focused curriculum design.

Modules

Modules are taught over a consecutive 11-day period in weekday evenings and weekends. Modules are delivered in English and taught on the Jinan University campus in Guangzhou.

Fees and funding

The programme will be self-financed.

Students will pay tuition fees directly to the University of Birmingham. For further information on the fee to be charged to students please contact the Birmingham Business School.

Entry requirements

  • A good Honours degree (or equivalent), or equivalent professional qualification
  • 5 years work experience
  • IELTS 6.5 (with no less than 6.0 in any band); TOEFL IBT 88 (21 in Reading, 20 in Listening, 22 in Speaking and 21 in Writing); Pearson Academic Test of English 59 (in all four skills)

How to apply

Applicants do not need to take the National Entrance Examination.

University of Birmingham will accept the best students based on the information in the application form and supporting documents.

Learning and teaching

Each module is designed to ensure that you will become familiar with both the operational and the strategic aspects of management disciplines through the use of innovative and creative teaching methods. These include action learning/research, formal and live case studies and computer assisted learning to complement conventional lectures and classes.

Careers in Business



Our in-house Careers in Business team and experienced consultants provide a specialist careers support service located in University House for the exclusive use of Business School postgraduates. Their role is to support your career development, which is done in a variety of ways.

  • Advice and guidance, provided by professionally qualified Careers Advisors, who offer individual consultations,
  • Career Development lectures and workshops and a Career Management skills programme;
  • Employer liaison, bringing in a variety of organisations to give presentations
  • Offer vacancies for full-time work and dissertation projects and deliver skills sessions and mock interviews.

Personal skills are increasingly valued by employers and this is reflected in our Personal Development module and Skills Series that include sessions on a wide variety of topics such as networking, team working, time management, leadership, consulting skills, personal image and presentation, assertiveness, influencing and persuading skills, stress management and emotional intelligence.

Entrepreneurship & Innovation Centre

Many students will have their own business idea that they would like to develop and we can provide support for this. Our Entrepreneurship & Innovation Centre gives practical support for embryo businesses. The Centre provides professional office and meeting (incubator) space and one-to-one expert guidance and advice.  Access to the Business School network (industrial links, partners, advisers/mentors, alumni and other students) is available, as are networking events, work space, skills programmes, funding, and, where possible, access to the media. The Centre also runs a Postgraduate Enterprise Summer School, which MBAs are encouraged to attend, designed to prepare you to:

  • Develop a business idea from the concept stage to a fully fledged business proposition
  • Know the steps required to set up their own business
  • Be aware of the requirements to commercialise research in an academic environment.
  • Be able to work effectively in a team environment
  • Identify which role they are best suited to in a business team
