Birmingham Business School has been delivering management education in Singapore since 1994, when its MBA programme was originally launched. The MSc Investments programme extends these activities in Singapore and is delivered in conjunction with our partners, the Singapore Institute of Management (SIM).

The Master of Science (MSc) Investments degree will equip you with the skills and knowledge that you need to function as an investment specialist in domestic and international markets.

CFA Institute University of Recognition Programme

This programme provides a solid grounding in the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) Programme Candidate Body of Knowledge (CBOK) and prepares students well for CFA exams.

  • This course has been accepted into the CFA Institute University Recognition Programme. This status is granted to institutions whose degree programme incorporates at least 70 per cent of the CFA Programme course of study on CBOK.

University academic experts teach theory and technique, whilst their application is taught by professional traders with years of experience in the industry and first-hand knowledge of current market regulations, trading techniques, customs and practices. You will also have access to simulated dealing room, where a range of trading techniques can be practised.

Objectives

The MSc Investments degree will allow you to:

  • Appreciate and critically analyse current global macro factors affecting today’s financial markets
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the theoretical and empirical literatures on investments and risk management in domestic and international contexts
  • Acquire a range of tools and techniques to manage portfolios, financial securities, risk and the valuation of corporate finance, equity research, fund management, strategy consulting, etc
  • Apply theoretical knowledge, practical skills, tools and techniques in a written dissertation
  • Develop specific transferable skills in financial modelling, research design, financial analysis, investment decision making, trading and teamwork

The choice of modules is subject to change and will follow changes according to the programme in the UK. As you will appreciate key members of staff may leave the University and this necessitates a review of the modules that are offered. Where the module is no longer available we will let you know as soon as we can and help you make other choices.

Fees and funding

Fees for 2017–18: S$29,660.40. 

Full-time: Payable in instalments based on the number of taught module credits undertaken in a term.

Part-time: Payable on a per taught module basis.

Fees are inclusive of prevailing GST and do not include textbooks. Fees are payable before term/ taught module commencement.

Entry requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (Upper 2nd Class Honours degree or equivalent)
  • Applicants must have obtained good grades (Upper 2nd Class Honours grade or equivalent) in mathematical related modules at undergraduate level
  • A minimum C6 pass in English as First Language at GCE ‘O’ Level. • All other qualifications will be assessed on individual merits

Other requirements

These are required to be submitted with your application:

  • Two satisfactory references of which one must be academic related
  • A letter of academic interest and objective in undertaking postgraduate study

All admissions are based on merit and are subject to the final approval of the Programme Director. Applicants may be interviewed prior to acceptance into the programme. No exemptions will be granted. Applicants with a work permit or employment pass can be considered for admission into the Part-time programme.

Monday 03 July 2017 is the application deadline for international students who require a visa to study in the United Kingdom. Applications received after this date will not be considered. Applications will reopen for 2018 entry on 15 September 2017.

Classroom learning comprising:

  • Computer simulation Lessons are typically 3 to 8 hours per day on weekdays and weekends, and they are delivered on a modular basis by Birmingham academics and industry specialists.
