Graduate Ab Initio Russian II (Intermediate)

The course is largely geared to the needs of the students and in the initial stages may include remedial work to consolidate basic knowledge of grammar, etc.

It will cover major topics of grammar which cause problems, the development of vocabulary and work on particular areas of difficulty in translation from Russian. Some work on the development of more active language skills will also be introduced.

The course aims to improve the ability of students to read social science materials in their area of research.

Assessment

  • One three-hour written exam consisting of a passage related to the student’s field of research for translation from Russian into English (60%)
  • A passage of a general social science nature for summarising in English (40%).

This course is available to all postgraduate students who have completed the first year module (Graduate Ab Initio Russian I (Beginners)) and those who already have a knowledge of Russian and wish to develop their reading and translation ability in the field of social science.
