Ukrainian for Research in Social Science

Students will learn the essential grammatical structures of Ukrainian and basic social science vocabulary. Some aspects of oral expression in Ukrainian will also be practised. Then, the students will develop reading, comprehension and translation skills, while working on newspaper texts on social and political issues.

The students will also translate texts in relation to their particular research needs. Teaching will be based on a mix of classroom and home exercises.

Course aims:

  • To learn the main grammatical structures of the Ukrainian language
  • To acquire the essential social science vocabulary
  • To read and translate authentic texts in Ukrainian of a journalistic nature and materials related to students’ research


  • One three-hour written exam (100%)
