Module Overview
This module aims to give students an understanding of the global impact of conflict and conflict trauma on patients and populations. It will explore governmental and non-governmental responses to delivery of trauma services in areas of conflict and post-conflict periods.
The module will also give an overview of the management of injuries sustained in conflict.
Learning outcomes
- Show an understanding of the contribution of conflict on trauma burden globally
- Evaluate the specific ethical and practical challenges of delivering care in conditions of conflict
- Be able to apply their understanding of the principles of management of combat injuries
- Be able to assess a systems wide approach to manage conflict injuries, the logistical burdens and the role of governmental and non-governmental organisations in delivery.

Assessment
Poster presentation of case study along with a 5 minute presentation of the poster with the aim of developing critical appraisal and presentation skills.
Method of Teaching
Combinations of lectures, seminars, tutorials, as well as self-directed activities including case studies (to be discussed using Canvas and other online forums as well as face to face discussions) to use as basis for understanding conflict trauma.
