This module facilitates the synthesis of the theoretical and practical aspects of a student's development through a period of mentorship within the practice environment. The work based environment will enable the student to expand their personal scope of practice, which in some cases may include an extended scope of practice. The students will have the opportunity to work in a variety of settings subject to negotiation, to further explore and develop their existing knowledge and skills towards advancement of their practice. The work based environment will enable the advancement of existing skills which may or may not include an extended scope of practice. The Mentor will enable the student's development through a partnership of teaching, researching, managing, observing and discussing with innovative practice being encouraged within the framework of safe, legal, and ethical practice.
By the end of the module you should be able to:
Identify personal and professional needs, formalised through a learning contract
Integrate theory, practice and research in the work-based context
Justify decisions regarding practice at an advanced level
Demonstrate advancement of practice through documentary evidence of development during placement
Demonstrate advancement of practice within relevant professional, legal, and ethical framework
Module Attendance Required
200 hours of negotiated mentored practice in a work-based setting.
Placement attendance is negotiated to be convenient to both the student and the placement.
A period of observation and/or viva as appropriate to the learning outcomes. The assessment process will utilise the learning contract, professional portfolio and the student's negotiated needs and achievements for the practice based experience. Additional elements are required for students registered on the Advanced Manipulative Physiotherapy programme in order to achieve MACP membership.
