The University is proud to offer a range of postgraduate scholarships that seek to support the best and brightest international students studying on research programmes at Birmingham.
Postgraduate Elite Scholarships in the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences
The College of Engineering and Physical Sciences offer a number of fully-funded Postgraduate Elite Scholarships available to international (non-EU) applicants intending to undertake PhD research at the University.
Up to ten Scholarships are offered each year across all engineering and physical science disciplines. The scholarship will provide:
Full tuition fees at the overseas rate
A maintenance stipend set at standard research council rates
A single £5,000 research grant to cover research related costs (travel, conferences, books, computing equipment etc)
The Scholarships are awarded for a period of 3.5 years and are expected to begin in September of the first year of the award (but the start date is negotiable). Award holders will typically graduate at or near the top of their cohort in internationally leading universities. Many will hold national or international prizes for their work as undergraduates.
Applicants should apply to their respective school for a PhD by following the standard admissions process. The schools will then select the leading applicants for consideration by an external panel. The outcome will be released by the beginning of February each year and applications and paperwork will need to be submitted to each school by the end of December.
The University Graduate School Doctoral Researcher Elite Scholarships scheme is not running for October 2014 starters.
