The University Graduate School supports Birmingham’s postgraduate researcher (PGR) community. We are a gateway to advice and support for postgraduate researchers, working with the other University support services to ensure our postgraduate researchers have access to high quality supervision, training and facilities.
Professor Gavin Schaffer, Director of Graduate Studies "A warm welcome from the University Graduate School. We are here to ensure that all postgraduate researchers across the University are equipped to do the highest quality research during their time at Birmingham, and that they have the skills needed to pursue the career they choose."
As well as our Director of Graduate Studies, Professor Gavin Schaffer, we have a dedicated team working to ensure that our postgraduate researchers are well supported during their time at the University of Birmingham. We are:
Dr Lila Kossyvaki, Research Fellow in the School of Education and former postgraduate researcher "I wanted to be a researcher so I took all the opportunities I was given by the University Graduate School here, I attended if not all most of the courses from how to present and prepare a poster, how to present at a conference, I participated in the poster conference competition, so I tried to expose myself to everything I could to have the best knowledge and then tried to do something independently."

It was great to meet PGRs from other disciplines to get insight into their approaches to research, and I also completed tasks which helped me to develop transferable skills, such as those in project management, interview techniques and approaches to writing CVs."
