Postgraduate Study fair

The main focus of the Open Day will be the Postgraduate Study Fair located in the Great Hall, Aston Webb Building (R6). Academic staff, representatives from the University’s support services and current postgraduate students will be available to answer your questions. The event will run from 14:00–16:00 and visitors are welcome to drop in at any time.

You will also be able to take advantage of one-to-one mentoring and careers advice sessions at the Advice Lounge, which will run from 11:30–16:00 in the Elgar Foyer, First Floor, Bramall Music Building (R12).

Central events

A welcome talk, introduction to postgraduate study, employer panel and presentation on funding opportunities will be given before the Study Fair opens. These central talks will take place 12:00–13:50 in the Elgar Concert Hall, Bramall Music Building (R12).

Café Masters and Café PhD

These events offer an opportunity to get first-hand, impartial advice on what it’s actually like to be a postgraduate student at Birmingham. Refreshments will be provided and you can come along for the whole session (17:15–18:30), or drop in whenever you can.

The Cafés for programmes in the Colleges of Arts and Law and Social Sciences will take place in the Arts Building (R16). Anyone interested in Engineering and Physical Sciences, Life and Environmental Sciences, or Medical and Dental Sciences should please go to the Mechanical and Civil Engineering Building (Y3).

Guided walking tours of the main campus will depart on the hour and at half-past the hour between 11:00 and 16:00. Guides will also be available to take you to the new postgraduate research hub at Westmere House (G15) at 14:30, 15:00 and 15:30. All tours take about an hour and depart from Reception, Aston Webb Building (R6).

Subject events

Many academic schools and departments will be offering presentations on the postgraduate study options within their academic area. Many of our schools and departments will also be open to enable you to drop in at times throughout the afternoon to look around and speak to admissions representatives and current students. Once you have registered, you will be sent full details of the Postgraduate Open Day programme in the run up to the event.

Local travel and parking

Open days are a very busy time for the University and as such we are only able to offer a limited number of parking spaces on these days. For your convenience, we would strongly recommend using public transport to reach us. The University of Birmingham is fortunate enough to have its own railway station, ‘University’. The centre of the main campus is just a five-minute walk from University station.
