Birmingham Centre for Translation members in Brazil

The University of Birmingham and the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina celebrate 37 years of continuous collaboration in the areas of English Language and Translation Studies with a Workshop on Translation and Discourse Studies at the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina.

The workshop was organized by Professor Malcolm Coulthard and Dr Carmen Rosa Caldas-Coulthard, who initiated the collaboration, and included presentations on current research from members of the Birmingham Centre for Translation, Professor Michael Toolan and Dr Gabriela Saldanha, as well as members of the Post-Graduate Programmes of English and Translation Studies, Dr José Roberto O’Shea, and Dr Lincoln Fernandes.

The University of Birmingham has been recognised for its work in Brazil with the Outstanding International Strategy Award in the 2014 Times Higher Education Leadership and Management Awards (THELMAs). The award honours Birmingham’s bold approach to secure its position in Brazil as the UK higher education institute partner of choice. The judges praised the University for showing a “long-term commitment as a serious and engaged partner”.
