DAVID RICKS (London)
Cavafy is often associated with the Naughty Nineties in England, butattention has also been paid, notably in Diana Haas's classic study, to thereligious aspect of his early work. This paper seeks to bridge the two byseeing what links may exist between Cavafy's mature poetry and certainpoems, not on sensual themes, by Englishmen of the 1890s generation. AllGreek poems will be discussed in translation.
