Dr Amanda Phillips, of CBOMGS, and Dr Rebecca Bridgman, of Birmingham Museums Trust, have been awarded a British Academy / Leverhulme Small Grant in order to hold a workshop on Ottoman objects at the Museum in April 2014.

Titled, "Empires of the Eye", the workshop unites experts -from Turkey, France, Germany, north America and the UK - in religious and cultural studies, in literature and poetry, and in social history and material culture who will together spend time working with the objects and discussing their place in Ottoman daily life. The grant provides a unique opportunity to involve senior and junior scholars, several of whom are also sponsored by the generosity of the British Institute in Ankara.
