CIGAR Conference 2013

The 14th Biennial CIGAR Conference was held at the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom on Monday 2nd and Tuesday 3rd September 2013. The main conference was followed by the CIGAR PhD and Emerging Scholars Conference on Wednesday 4th September 2013.

Policy Session

As an innovation this year, one of the parallel sessions was arranged as a ‘Policy Session’ in which representatives of two organisations led discussions on issues in public sector accounting. The organisations represented this year are the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and the Swedish Council for Municipal Accounting (SCMA). The theme of the ICAEW presentation is the strengthening of UK government financial management by the appointment of a Chief Financial Officer to the UK cabinet Office. The theme of the SCMA presentation is the experiences of accounting standard setting in the context of local government in Sweden. The session will be chaired by Professor David Heald of the University of Aberdeen.
