Chemical Biology and Drug Discovery

This theme taps into the well documented changes in strategy and working practices in the global pharmaceutical sector, which means increased use of outsourcing, and partnering of academic multidisciplinary teams in outreach projects, and pre-competitive research. It also facilitates links with the School of Biosciences, including synthetic biology at the UoB, the recent investment in Pharmacy at the UoB and to chemical activity in the £4.5M Midlands Integrative Biosciences Training Partnership (MIBTP), a doctoral training partnership funded by the BBSRC, involving the UoB, the University of Leicester and the University of Warwick (2012-2018).

We also undertake medicinal chemistry research in collaboration with staff from the School of Pharmacy and are linked to a cross-disciplinary programme focused on understanding and addressing antimicrobial resistance.
