Medical School wide shotThe College of Medical and Dental Sciences offers a range of taught and research-based programmes in healthcare, biomedical science and related fields.

We offer a range of undergraduate programmes spanning Medical, Biomedical and Dental disciplines. Our postgraduate education opportunities include research, taught and combined programmes, available on a full or part time basis leading to the qualifications of MD, PhD, MPhil, MRes, MSc, Postgraduate Diploma and Postgraduate Certificate. Continuing professional development (CPD) opportunities are also available as short study programmes. 

Undergraduate Study

Our highly respected MBChB Medicine and Surgery and BDS Dental Surgery both take 5 years to complete and produce over 330 qualified doctors and 75 qualified dentists every year, who go on to life long careers in the healthcare world.

The four-year MPharm Pharmacy programme requires student to undertake 52 weeks pre-registration training after graduation. Once this training is complete they take the General Pharmaceutical Council’s pre-registration examination before being able to practise as a Pharmacist.

Our Nursing, Dental Hygiene and Therapy, Biomedical Science and Biomedical Materials Science programmes take three years to complete and have an excellent reputation for developing high-quality biomedical and biomaterials graduates, nurses, and dental hygienists and therapists, many of whom come back in later life to continue with their studies at postgraduate level.

Postgraduate Taught

We offer a number of Taught Postgraduate courses and professional development training ranging across our areas of specialism. They are delivered by some of the UK’s most respected clinicians, academics, scientists and health professionals and are aimed at those professionals who wish to further their career.

They are offered on a part-time or full-time basis and some as distance learning. Courses include Masters level qualifications, Postgraduate Diplomas and Postgraduate Certificates.

Postgraduate Research

The College of Medical and Dental Sciences is heavily research focused and has a worldwide reputation in medical, dental and health research projects. We offer a wide range of training opportunities in all aspects of biomedical science ranging from state of the art molecular genetics and cell biology to patient-directed gene therapy, students working typically with world leaders in their field.

Postgraduate Combined Taught and Research Programmes

Some programmes are available which combine both taught and research elements at Masters level. This includes MRes and Professional Doctorate programmes.

Short Courses - Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

We also offer a range of short Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses and modules that are suitable for professionals who wish to top up their skills in a specific area. The programmes can be attended on either an assessed or non assessed basis. Assessed programmes usually carry Masters level credits which can be built up towards a postgraduate qualification.
