Russell is a lecturer in the History in Education and Director of secondary ITE in the School of Education, University of Birmingham.
After gaining his PGCE in 1994 Russell Manning worked as a Teacher of History at the Earls High School in Halesowen. He worked at this school for ten years and held the following posts; Deputy Head of Year, Second in Humanities and Head of History. During this time he also co-ran the annual Summer Literacy School and worked as the History Mentor in the school for the University of Birmingham for eight years. He taught R.E, Geography and History.
He has also been an external examiner since 2008 for the History PGCE at University West of England and a committee member of the History Teacher Education Network and the Midlands History Forum.
