Food Security research at the University of BirminghamFor the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC), ‘Agriculture and food security’ is one of three strategic research priorities.

Across the EU, “Sustainable food security” is within the Societal Challenges Horizon 2020 research programme.

Collaboration between funders has provided a more strategic focus, for example through the Agriculture, Food Security & Climate Change Joint Programming Initiative (FACCE-JPI) which funds collaboration between EU researchers through the national funding bodies of the participants.

A global perspective is provided by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

Research on Food Security at the University of Birmingham is funded through a variety of routes including BBSRC, DEFRA, EU Horizon 2020 as well as other EU initiatives, FACCE-JPI, the FAO and bodies such as Leverhulme Trust and the Royal Society.
