Professor Cole Miller, visiting from University of Maryland, will be hosted by Professor Ilya Mandel, School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Birmingham in January 2017.
Professor Cole Miller from the University of Maryland in the US, one of the world’s foremost experts on theoretical astrophysics broadly and gravitational-wave astronomy in particular, expressed an interest in visiting Birmingham for about 1 month in January 2017. Professor Miller is responsible for a number of prominent scientific advances, including some of the first predictions of dynamically-formed gravitational-wave sources, which could explain the recent exciting LIGO observation of the merger of binary black holes, a revolutionary advance to which the Birmingham group has made a major contribution.
Professor Miller’s visit will allow extended collaboration with the world leading Gravitational Wave Astronomy group in Birmingham.
