Screening Vulnerability

Location

Dates
Thursday 9 July 2015 (13:00-17:00)

Workshop Leader: Dr Michele Aaron

The ethical turn in cultural and film theory, visual turn in criminology and the Social Sciences, and creative turn in Business studies has generated growing discussion of the discourse, representation and socio-economic currency of questions of human vulnerability and rights alongside, and often connected to, public debate in these areas. All academic disciplines, as well as campaigning and third-sector fora, addressing social justice issues, increasingly use screen narratives to illustrate and disseminate their work yet their intersecting aims, ethics and aesthetics, are yet to be fully explored. This workshop aims to address this by connecting these  discussions and exploring the potential for film to affect personal, social and/or political change within such a range of contexts.
