Resilience and sustainability - Civil Engineering research

Description
This core research theme aims to study novel built-environment and buried infrastructure solutions to minimise water, energy and other resource usage commensurate with economic, social and environmental health.

Resilience and Sustainability - Civil Engineering research

Description
Resilience and Sustainability - Civil Engineering research: our ability to respond in a sustainable way to the challenges that we and future generations will face is at the core of this theme. The challenges posed by climate change, regulation and natural disasters, and how we adapt our existing cities to ensure that they are future-proof, gives a flavour of the type of research questions we are concerned with.

Resilience and Sustainability - Civil Engineering research - Floods

Description
An introduction to hydraulic engineering research.

Resilience and Sustainability - Civil Engineering research - Wind Engineering

Description
Wind engineering is becoming increasingly important because of more extreme weather events. By building what is believed to be the UK's leading research team in this subject, the aim of this research theme is to address the complex challenges posed to engineers.

Rheumatoid Arthritis and Periodontal Inflammatory Disease (RAPID)

Description
The most prevalent chronic inflammatory diseases of humans are complex disorders of multifactorial aetiology influenced by genes, the environment and their interactions. Periodontitis (PD) and rheumatoid arthritis are two such chronic inflammatory diseases associated with significant morbidity and mortality, and have recently shown to have a bidirectional association. Moreover, the prevalence of both increases substantially with age, and given both the Europe-wide ageing population and the impact of both diseases upon the economy, health and quality of life, it is clear that novel and more cost effective approaches to management are urgently required
