Dr Alison Welsby's book on Family 1 published
ITSEE is delighted by the publication of Dr Alison Welsby's new book, A Textual Study of Family 1 in the Gospel of John, which is based on her doctoral research at ITSEE with Professor David Parker.
The book presents a textual study of the Gospel of John in the seventeen Greek manuscripts of the textual group known as Family 1 which forms an important witness for the text of the New Testament. Dr Welsby's research, using full collations of the Gospel of John prepared from fresh transcriptions of the manuscripts, identifies and confirms core members and discovers key new subgroups within Family 1. As a result, she is able to identify many new textual and marginal readings which ought to be considered Family 1 readings. The book includes a reconstructed text of Family 1 with critical apparatus that now become the standard edition for the Gospel of John in Family 1, superseding Kirsopp Lake’s 1902 study.
It is really great to see a lot of hard work produce such magnificent results!
The book is published by De Gruyter as volume 45 in the Arbeiten zur neutestamentlichen Textforschung series and is available worldwide in print and e-book form.
