The 2013-14 academic year saw the launch of a new CEPLER lecture series called Perspectives on Public Law. The purpose of this series is to invite those involved in the practice of public law—broadly defined—to speak to students and staff at Birmingham Law School.
The inaugural lecture was given by David Lock QC, a prominent lawyer at the public law bar and who was MP for Wyre Forest from 1997-2001, during which time he served as a minister. Reflecting his experience of both the legal and political worlds, David Lock spoke on “Law, Politics and Public Law”.
In February 2014, Alexandra Marks spoke about “ One Woman's Life in the Law: Private Practice, Senior Judiciary and Public Service". After 27 years at Linklaters, Alexandra retired as a partner in June 2011. She sits as a Recorder (Civil) and as a High Court Deputy (Queen’s Bench Division, and Administrative Court). In 2012, Alexandra was appointed Solicitor Commissioner on the Judicial Appointments Commission, and was appointed a Criminal Cases Review Commissioner in 2013.
