As well as being a Unit of excellence in the teaching of the history of medicine to medical undergraduate and postgraduate students, plenty of opportunities exist for postgraduate research students to undertake research based upon the Unit’s research strengths and current projects. The Centre is particularly keen to supervise projects which concentrate on the history of medical institutions, occupational health, child health and medical education. It is possible to work towards the degree of MPhil, MLitt and PhD by research, and for some clinicians, MD by research. The Unit currently has seventeen postgraduate research students who have now forged themselves into a vibrant community.
