Professor Watson holds a British Heart Foundation (BHF) Chair in Cardiovascular Sciences and Cellular Pharmacology.
The BHF also provide core support to the research group which includes an Administrative Manager (Mrs Gayle Halford), a Research Technician (Dr Beata Grygielska) and a Research Fellow (Dr Steve Thomas). Research within the group is supported by programme support from the Wellcome Trust (currently years 16 to 20) and by a number of BHF-funded studentships and project grants. Several grants are held in collaboration with other groups. A BHF Project Grant is held jointly with Stuart Egginton (PI) and Roy Bicknell on the role of platelets in angiogenesis. A BHF funded Studentship on protein kinase C in platelet activation is held with Catherine Pears (PI) in the Department of Biochemistry in the University of Oxford and Alastair Poole in the University of Bristol. A MRC studentship on the role of a novel trafficking protein in platelet secretion is held jointly with Paul Gissen (PI).
Dr Yotis Senis holds a British Heart Foundation (BHF) Intermediate Fellowship on the role of protein phosphatises in platelets. Research in his group is also supported by project grant support from the BHF. Dr Senis has a collaborative grant with Angel Garcia in the University of Santiago in Spain on the use of proteomics in the study of patients with cardiovascular disease.
The platelet research in other laboratories in the Birmingham Platelet Group is supported by several project and studentship grants from the British Heart Foundation.
