Members of this group use a variety of techniques to investigate how bacteria can cause disease with focus on how bacterial proteins can interact with host cells and how bacteria can secrete molecules required for pathogenesis.
A central goal to much of the work of this group is identification of novel candidates for vaccine development and members of this group are or have been involved in vaccine trials and have filed a number of patents in this area.
Current research programmes focus on enteric pathogens including Escherichia coli, and Salmonella.
Research in this area is supported by extensive funding from research councils, charities, government agencies and other sources.
