Business engagement and technology transfer

business-and-tt-bannerThe University of Birmingham works with a wide variety of commercial organisations and aims to use the skills, knowledge and expertise of its community to collaborate with the commercial world and add value to businesses and industries globally.

What we do

Engaging with industry is a strategic priority for the College and brings many benefits to academic and clinical researchers. Working with industry:

  • Generates an important source of income
  • Allows access to sources of government funding for collaborative research
  • Demonstrates research impact, which is important for REF
  • Enhances citation of publications
  • Enhances the student experience

Academic enterprise in the College of Medical and Dental Sciences has led to many successful partnerships with industry and the College actively continues to seek new collaborative opportunities.

The College’s Business Engagement team can provide support for engaging with both large and small companies:

  • Helping to identify companies relevant to enhancing your research
  • Signposting you to central university support for business engagement
  • Facilitating and maximizing interactions with industry collaborators
  • Providing information on collaborative funding opportunities
  • Supporting development of proposals for collaborative research
