Birmingham Policy Commissions

Children Playing

The Birmingham Policy Commissions bring leading figures from the public, private and third sectors together with Birmingham academics to generate new thinking on contemporary issues of global, national and civic concern.

The Birmingham Policy Commissions tackle issues such as the shape and nature of local public services in a ‘big society’, the future of energy, ageing in the 21st Century, and the challenges of security and freedom. Each Commission will -

  • agree the key questions to be explored
  • invite and consider evidence from a range of organisations, experts and interests as well as drawing on relevant research within the University
  • identify implications for society at large or specific sectors/groups
  • make innovative and challenging policy recommendations

Policy Commission findings will inform the direction of future research, teaching and knowledge exchange activities across the University.
