Chocolate Welding Competition

Description
Heartlands Academy and Smith's Wood Sports College will like a STEM Ambassador to judge a chocolate welding session. This involves making structures by melting chocolate and cooling them. They would also like the STEM Ambassador to give a talk or another hands­on activity related to their role (preferably related to structures, e.g. civil engineering) as part of the session. This will take place at Heartlands with Smith's Wood visiting. The school are flexible on which Wednesday you would be available but will need time to make arrangements.

University Life and Study Support

Description
The school are looking for a STEM Ambassador to talk about what it's like to study at university. They would also like the STEM Ambassador to suggest revision techniques for their students as they are struggling to find ways to revise and if possible, do some revision activities with the students.

Remote control helicopters available for projects

Description
Some remote control helicopters have been donated to us with some mechanical and electrical faults. The man who donated them gave them to us so that schools can repair them and make this into a project. A STEM Ambassador has since repaired some and can give advice to anyone who would like to take them to a school. If you are interested, please email us.

Maths at work

Description
The school would like a STEM Ambassador who uses maths in their job to visit the school. You do not necessarily have to be a mathematician but just to be able to demonstrate how maths is useful in your job. The school are very flexible on when you can visit and for how long and would prefer something hands-on or practical to do to show how maths is useful. The sort of things that students learn at this age is adding and subtracting large numbers, metric system, volumes, estimations, 2D and 3D shapes, angles, timetables, decimals and percentages.

The school are looking for STEM Ambassadors to visit their school. The school are very flexible with who visits and will try to match the syllabus to your profession.

Mock Interviews Hall Green School

This school are holding a mock interview day for their year 10 students. Each student will bring a CV with them as part of their progress folder. Interviews will take 20 minutes each. Lunch will be provided for those who plan to stay for the whole day.

STEM Day Yardleys School

The students will be doing an engineering task involving budgeting and designing a way to support/cushion an egg being dropped from various heights. They would like a STEM Ambassador to discuss the engineering considerations from forces/practicality and budgeting linking all strands of STEM in an engaging and fun way.

Work taster day

The school would like to provide the opportunity for students to find out about the kind of tasks undertaken in a variety of occupational sectors through experiencing an interactive workshop with the aim to provide careers information to pupils about what people do in different jobs.The school are asking for 60 minute hands-on workshops to provide a 'taster' of a particular career. This can involve a short presentation with more focus on the hands-on activity.

Enabling Enterprise Challenge

Enabling Enterprise are running a challenge day at the University of Birmingham for school students. They are looking for STEM Ambassadors to help facilitate the activities and support the students. No preparation is required and this is an ideal first ambassador activity. Full briefing is given on the day
