Agrobiodiversity – traditionally grown varieties of crop plants or landraces, and wild species related to crop plants, represent a valuable economic resource for future crop improvement. They contain genes that are increasingly used to develop new varieties of crops. Important issues are the extent to which this resource is protected, how it is protected and whether it will survive rapid climate change to provide the genes to combat the stresses of global warming. Will extinction be the outcome, or adaptation to a changing world?
