About

PhD Title: Experiments and mathematical modeling the impacts of silver nanoparticles on the formation and structure of biofilm

Supervisors: Dr Jan-Ulrich Kreft (School of Biosciences) and Professor Eugenia Valsami-Jones (School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences)

My research project is to investigate the impacts of silver nanoparticles on the individual bacterial cells and the formation and structure of biofilm.

Qualifications

I obtained the Master degree in Chemical Engineering and Technology at Dalian University of Technology.

Biography

I studied Environmental Engineering for my first degree at Shenyang Ligong University. I did the project of aerobic granules for a MEng in Chemical Engineering at Dalian University of Technology. During my Master research I developed interests of microbiology and mathematical modeling. Microbiology is a fascinating world, which attracted me to move toward microbes for a PhD in Birmingham.

Research

My main research interest is environmental microbiology. Currently I am working on the effects of manufactured nanomaterials on bacteria. I am trying to find out how silver nanoparticles impact the behaviors of single cell as well as bacterial colony.
