PhD Title: Application of next generation sequencing in public health microbiology
Supervisors: Tim Mitchell, Nick Loman and, Charles Penn
I am currently researching the epidemiology of P. aeruginosa in severe burns victims using whole genome sequencing as well as the microbial ecology of hospital water using shotgun metagenomics. I am also developing techniques for challenging metagenomic sequencing of clinical samples, including tissue and blood.
Josh studied biomedical science at the University of Southampton, before getting a job at Illumina as an integration scientist. He started his PhD with Tim Mitchell and Nick Loman in 2012 and also holds a post as a bioinformatician for the SRMRC, Birmingham.
