William graduated with BSc in Business Management from the University of Birmingham in 2012. Following graduation William took a gap year and he is now working as part of the Future Leaders Development Programme at Barclays.

My career

In September 2013 I rejoined the Future Leaders Development Programme at Barclays, having completed an Internship in the summer after graduation. In my current role I am on International Assignment to Barclaycard US where I work as a Partner Manager for a market leading and globally recognized technology brand. I liaise with the partner on a daily basis contributing to the successful delivery of their consumer credit card proposition.

Throughout my 2 years on the FLDP I will undertake 4 completely separate 6 month rotations. These diverse roles will expose me to a range of different leadership styles, deepen my knowledge of the banking industry and increase awareness of myself, my strengths, and my passions. Overall this will provide an excellent foundation for the start of my career.

Why Birmingham Business School?

Studying at Birmingham was excellent; I definitely made the right choice. The staff are experienced and very knowledgeable. They put the onus on you to seek their help and advice but are always willing to support you when you do. My experiences at Birmingham helped me to grow, preparing me for the start of my professional life and future career.

"I really enjoyed the diverse range of opportunities that were available...."

The Birmingham experience

Living in Birmingham truly exceeded my expectations. The Vale in first year was a fantastic place to live and Selly Oak in 2nd and final year was a great community, where your friends are always just around the corner. I really enjoyed the diverse range of opportunities that were available to me; the BrumSki holidays, rowing for UBBC and nights at the guild - I was constantly meeting new people.

Tips and advice

Be proactive by speaking to your lecturers, especially when working on their assignments. The additional knowledge they will share to you will be invaluable. Take part in the Year in Industry or Year Abroad, not only will you make lasting memories, you will learn a lot about yourself.

Always make time for sport or exercise, it will aid your studies and increase your social circle. Finally, in all that you do, try to be conscious of what you enjoyed and what motivated you. If you follow your passions success will be easier to reach.
