Research degree entry requirements

For entry on to our research degrees we require:

  • A Masters degree in a relevant subject from a UK university, or an equivalent qualification from a recognised university overseas. In some situations we will accept a good honours degree (first or upper second class honours) or equivalent. This will depend on the quality and/or originality of your research proposal.
  • An outline proposal for the research you wish to undertake.  The outline proposal should be about 3 sides of A4 in length, preferably typed, describing the nature of the proposed study.  The School attached great importance to the quality of this outline research proposal.  In some cases you may be asked to rewrite the outline proposal so as to be eligible for the programme.

International Student Entry Requirements

Please note: there are some important factors to be aware of if you require a visa/entry clearance in order to enter / stay in the UK:

  • Tier 4 Student Visas are not available for the DBA under any circumstances because it is a Part-time programme, and hence does not meet the legal requirements of Tier 4.
  • For details about whether you need a visa to study in the UK, please refer to the UK Border Agency's Visa Services website
  • If you have any concerns about the necessary documentation to travel to the UK, you are strongly advised to seek specialist immigration advice and can contact our International Students Advisory Service (ISAS) at isas@contacts.bham.ac.uk
