The Accounting and Finance department are delighted to have achieved the gold standard of recognition as a Centre of Excellence in the provision of finance teaching by The Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments (CISI).
We are one of only 8 UK universities to be recognised as a Centre of Excellence for Postgraduate finance teaching and the only business school in the midlands region with such status. In addition, we are the first UK University to be accredited by CISI at bachelor degree level.
Finance students will be given student membership of the CISI when they enrol on a programme, allowing them access to a range of professional networking and career development opportunities.
The agreement allows students the opportunity to complete professional qualifications such as the CISI Investment Advice Diploma, whilst studying, as well as exemptions from the CISI Diploma at postgraduate level.
The partnership between a Chartered Institute and a higher education institution is seen as an excellent opportunity for students to bridge the gap between academia and the work place.
Ruth Martin, Managing Director of the CISI, said; “We are looking forward to working more closely with the University and developing new initiatives to further advance finance education. In these challenging times a professional qualification, undertaken as part of a prestigious undergraduate programme, can ensure a student gains a competitive edge in the jobs market.”
Dr Paul Cox from the University’s Business School adds: “This is an exciting partnership that will offer our students the opportunity to work with one of the most widely respected professional bodies in the securities and investment industry. Our graduates will have access to outstanding professional qualifications, a greater understanding of the opportunities in financial services, and be ready to do business. This is a relationship that we believe offers huge benefits and which we hope will develop and grow in future years.”
University of Birmingham has become the 20th university to partner with the CISI, in the 20th anniversary year since the Institute’s foundation in 1992 from the London Stock Exchange.
