In this third event of the CoSS Essentials series, the subject will be ‘Grant Capture’. This session will be led by Professor Stefan Wolff, College Director of Research & Knowledge Transfer, and is intended for research-active staff.

Securing external funding is an increasingly critical skill for scholars seeking to explore new research agendas and further their careers within academia. However, writing successful grant applications and designing a strategy to build up a bidding portfolio requires a detailed understanding of the funding environment.

Professor Wolff, with support from colleagues in the College Research Support Office, will discuss the role that research funding can play in your academic career and offer advice on how to secure the type of funding that is most appropriate for your ambitions.

You will hear about the characteristics of a ‘fundable’ application and tips on how to write excellent bids. The session will also cover CoSS procedures for grant applications (including peer review) and advice will be provided by colleagues with recent successes in grant capture.

A basic lunch will be provided. All members of research-active academic staff in the College are invited to attend; places are limited and will be filled on a first come, first served, basis so do reserve yours as soon as possible.
