The Alan Walters Building, named following a significant gift from Lady Walters, is a signature facility for Birmingham Business School.  It will enhance the School’s reputation on a global stage, and provide a truly exceptional experience for future generations of postgraduate business students.  Its naming will also be a fitting recognition of Sir Alan Walters’ illustrious career, and an appreciation of his time at the University of Birmingham, from 1951 to 1968, most notably as Professor of Econometrics and Statistics.

To formally open the building, leading UK Economist and former Chairman of Santander Lord Burns will give a guest lecture entitled, "Comparing the economic challenges of today with those of the 1980s" in the main lecture theatre of the building.  We will be joined by Lady Walters, her family, and some of Sir Alan’s contemporaries who will provide us with a personal insight into Alan’s life and career.  After the lecture, a plaque will be unveiled by Lady Walters in the foyer of the building, followed by a drinks and canapés reception.
