Kate graduated from the University of Birmingham in 1987. She went on to become an engineer in the car industry before moving into the oil and gas industry where she moved through the ranks to build a highly successful and illustrious career at BP.

During her 22 years at the company, Kate led businesses in the gas, chemicals and shipping sectors and held a number of roles in the BP Group headquarters. From 2006-2014, Kate led BP's commercial shipping operation, which supplies al of the BP Group's shipping needs, and managed all of its waterborne voyages and the trading activities of BP's fleet of around 170 tankers. She now develops projects with multi-national teams around the globe, sits as a member of the Advisory Board of Birmingham Business School, and is a Trustee of the Richmond Parish Lands Charity.
