Prof. Shlomo Y. Tarba is a Chair (Full Professor) in Strategy & International Business, and joined Birmingham Business School as a Reader (Associate Professor) in August 2015. Between August 2015 and September 2018 he served as a Head of Department of Strategy & International Business and a member of Senior Management Team of Birmingham Business School. Previously he worked as a Lecturer in Business Strategy & International Business in the Management School of the University of Sheffield (2013-15), and has vast teaching experience in The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Tel-Aviv University, Ben-Gurion University, and others.

Biography

Prof. Tarba is an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of cross-border mergers and acquisitions, organizational ambidexterity, agility, and cross-cultural management.

Prof. Tarba is a Deputy Editor-In-Chief of British Journal of Management (ABS 4, Impact Factor 2.75) and an incoming Co-Editor-In-Chief of BJM. In recognition for his significant contribution to the social sciences he was awarded in March 2020 the Fellowship of the Academy of Social Sciences (FAcSS). 

One of his papers has been selected and published in Best Paper Proceedings of the Academy of Management (USA) in 2006.

He also served as a reviewer to various international refereed journals such as Organization Studies, Journal of Management Studies, Academy of Management Perspectives, MIT Sloan Management Review, Journal of International Business Studies, British Journal of Management, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of World Business, Human Resource Management, Human Relations, Human Resource Management Journal, International Business Review, Management International Review, International Marketing Review, Group and Organization Management, International Journal of Human Resource Management, European Management Review, International Studies of Management & Organization, Thunderbird International Business Review, European Journal of International Management, European Journal of Cross-Cultural Competence & Management, Management Decision, Cross-Cultural Management: An International Journal, Journal of Organizational Change Management, World Review of Entrepreneurship, Management and Sustainable Development, and others.

In addition, he has served as a track chair, session chair, reviewer, and presenter in major international conferences organized by Academy of Management (AOM, US), British Academy of Management (BAM), Academy of International Business (AIB), Strategic Management Society (SMS), European Group for Organizational Studies (EGOS), European International Business Academy (EIBA), and European Academy of Management (EURAM).

Prof. Tarba has served as a moderator at the executive forums such as iNNOVEX annual conference in the Israeli high-tech industry in 2016 and 2017, and an invited speaker at the workshop on "Cross-border M&A in the European energy sector" organized in Amsterdam in 2012 by Marcus Evans company. His consulting experience includes biotechnological and telecom companies, as well as industry association such as The Israeli Rubber and Plastic Industry Association, and The US – Israel Chamber of Commerce.

Teaching

Prof. Shlomo Y. Tarba teaches mandatory Strategic Management core module and elective International Collaborative Strategies module to postgraduate and undergraduate students across different programs delivered by the School.

Postgraduate supervision

Prof. Tarba has supervised a wide range of student dissertations from undergraduate to doctoral-level.

Research

Prof. Tarba's fields of expertise are Business Strategy, Global Strategy, Human Resource Management, and Organisational Behaviour.

His principal research interests lie in Mergers and Acquisitions, Strategic Agility, Ambidexterity, Resilience, and Sustainability.

Other activities

Prof. Tarba is a Deputy Editor-In-Chief of British Journal of Management (ABS 4, Impact Factor 2.75) and an incoming Co-Editor-In-Chief of BJM.
