John joined the Department of Economics in September 2012. Prior to joining the University of Birmingham, he was a research assistant on the evaluation of the Preparing for Life early childhood intervention in UCD Geary Institute. He has previously worked as a Policy Advisor to the Irish Government, based in the Department of Community, Equality and Gaeltacht Affairs. He was responsible for analysing proposals relating to the Government’s work, liaising with elected and departmental officials, budget preparations and monitoring delivery of the Programme for Government.
He is completed his PhD in Quantitative Social Sciences in UCD under the supervision of Professor Paul Devereux in November 2012. His thesis relates to voting behaviour and elections, and uses experimental and quasi-experimental techniques.
