Ron Hallmark spent his career mainly in the Department of French Studies, University of Birmingham, where his specialist interests lay in the literature and culture of sixteenth century France, and in language.
In particular, he was, for a number ofyears, responsible for devising and delivering language coursesappropriate for students of Commerce and Social Science.
Hisadministrative duties focussed on initiating and maintaining links withacademic institutions in France. He was for many years responsible forsupervising compulsory study-residence abroad, in the process nurturingERASMUS partnerships and coordinating an ICP. In 1999, he was made aChevalier dans l'Ordre des Palmes Académiques for services to Frenchculture.
